HUGO CARVALHAIS
Hugo Carvalhais nasceu no Porto e formou-se em Pintura na Escola de Belas Artes.
Apesar de ser autodidata, Carvalhais estudou e participou em seminários com músicos como Ron Carter, Eddie Gomez, Hein Van de Geyn, Mario Pavone, Carlos Bica e Miroslav Vitous.
Considerado como um dos contrabaixistas portugueses mais talentoso e "sui generis" da sua geração, Hugo já colaborou com músicos como Julian Arguelles, Tim Berne, Emile Parisien, Dominique Pifarély, Liudas Mockunas, Sheila Jordan, Jefferey Davis, Art Themen, entre outros.
Lançou o seu primeiro disco, em 2010, com o saxofonista Tim Berne. "Nebulosa" foi considerado um dos melhores álbuns do ano pela revista "Jazz.pt" e recebeu excelentes críticas por parte da imprensa nacional e internacional.
O álbum também foi escolhido como um dos registos mais representativos da etiqueta Clean Feed por altura do seu 10º aniversário.
Em 2012 Hugo Carvalhais lançou o seu segundo álbum chamado "Partícula" com os seus companheiros habituais do trio (Gabriel Pinto e Mário Costa) e ainda com a participação de Dominique Pifarély e Emile Parisien.

Desafiante, inteligente e intrigante, são alguns dos adjectivos que permitem classificar a música de Hugo Carvalhais que se afirma num universo sonoro peculiar fintando arrumações estilísticas.
O colectivo tem tido uma visibilidade crescente, fruto do óptimo acolhimento dos discos "Nebulosa", "Partícula" e "Grand Valis" ao reunirem unanimemente a aceitação e elogio dos media nacionais e internacionais.
"Grand Valis" lançado em 2015 foi o primeiro disco de jazz português a ser distinguido com o selo "CHOC" pela conceituada publicação francesa Jazz Magazine.
